The Catholic Church of Costa Rica is demanding respect...from Marduk. The Swedish black metal band is scheduled to make an appearance in Costa Rica next week and church officials have gone public with their objections of the group's music and image.
Religious groups have been critical of Marduk's anti-Christian lyrics and have gone so far as to regard the group as "Satanic."
Mario Segura, Catholic priest and spokesperson for the Curia Metropolitana, has gone on record saying Marduk "should have more respect because they are sacred things" (referencing the band's use of religious articles and imagery, such as the depiction of an inverted cross in its cover art).
